"Trans Panic"

A U.S. Marine, Joseph Pemberton, was convicted in the Philippines, on Tuesday, December 1, of killing a woman after he discovered that she was transgender.

First of all, how dare you? How dare you not only discriminate against, and dislike someone just because they are transgender, but then you KILL her? Are you kidding me? You are a U.S. Marine. You are supposed to be one of the people society looks up to, but you are not. You are a fraud, and a coward, and a disgusting human being.

The only reason that this man had a problem with her was because he met her at a bar, and took her back to his hotel room. He must have thought that she was pretty attractive then, right? But as soon as it was discovered that she had male genitalia, he went into a fit of rage, strangling her and dunking her head into a toilet bowl.

Pemberton claimed that he acted in self defense, and that she was alive when he left the room. While on trial, he tried to use the "trans panic" defense, but it was rejected by the court.

For those who don't know, "trans panic" is basically a defense tactic used in court, which asks the jury to blame the crime on the victims gender identity. While it does not always work, it is still a thing.

He was eventually convicted of homicide. However, he is only serving a 6 to 12 year sentence in prison. He also has to pay Jennifer Laude's family $98,000 in damages.

Laude's family is not pleased with the duration of the sentence, considering that he could be in prison for 40 years. However, they are glad to know that Jennifer's life was not a waste, and that the man who murdered her is in prison.
