Have you ever heard one of your friends say, "I wish I had a gay best friend"?
If so, you know the stereotypes. All gay guys are good looking, they have the best fashion sense, and they know all about the dating world.
So what happens when a gay man does not fit into this stereotype?
They are crushed. They feel as though they will never be accepted.
In this world today, gay men face discrimination and stereotypes every day. They are constantly hated for living the lives that they do, and every day they live can be a struggle.
In pop culture all you see is the gay guy who is a diva, and has a fashion sense. But that's not the way all gay men are.
Expecting all gay men to act the certain way is extremely damaging to them. They begin to feel like they have to act the stereotypical way if they are ever going to be accepted.
Think about the person first, and the sexuality last. Don't seek out a friend because he is gay, but be friends with someone because you like them, and accept them.
